sai-national.org • SUMMER 2018 • PAN PIPES 3 Dear Readers, T he summer season is upon us and affords many with the chance to partake in a variety of musical events. Whether you are a member of a summer community ensemble, an audience member at a local Friday night concert series, or you simply enjoy singing with friends and family around a campfire, music is a wonderful way to connect and relax. I recently had the opportunity to dust off my oboe and play with my husband's military band for our local Independence Day festivities. Aer a rather busy winter and spring, it felt wonderful to once again share live music with others and remember the special relationship that musicians have when working together. As the 2018 SAI Convention in Arizona approaches, where many SAI members will have the chance to listen and perform together, this issue of PAN PIPES celebrates the numerous achievements and recognitions of members who have been sharing their love of music in outstanding ways. e varied works of the featured performers, educators, composers, researchers, and business-women serve as a shining example of how one can continue to promote the fraternity's Purposes during a musical career. ey have all been upholding the highest standards of music and furthering the development of music in America and throughout the world, while giving inspiration and encouragement to our members. Would you or someone you know like to share a love of music with our readership by writing an article for PAN PIPES? We welcome new music related stories, research articles, reviews, and interviews to share with our PAN PIPES readers.
