The programs featured topics determined by meetings with library staff and were designed to educate and entertain library patrons of all ages through the integration of music, narration, and audience participation, with a special Memphis connection to each topic. The chapter presented a concert of traditional Christmas music at Christmas time with music students from the University of Memphis. Around St. Patrick's Day they presented a program of traditional Irish folk music, including fiddle and penny whistle, and a classical piano piece by a 19 th century Irish composer. Music was interwoven into the discussion of the history of Irish settlements in Memphis, various St. Patrick's Day traditions, Irish immigration in general, and finished with a "parade" around the library. The idea for this project has long been a dream of the Library, and the Memphis Alumnae are excited to help them craft additional topics of interest in order to bring the history of Memphis alive through music. To accomplish this they hosted a Campus Sing event, a campus-wide talent competition at their university. The money was raised through participant registration, chapter fundraising, donations, a silent auction, and ticket sales. Thirteen university organizations participated in the event's music and dance categories. To determine a winner, three judges, including a professor from their College of Music, adjudicated the event. Approximately 100 audience members were in attendance, not including performers and chapter members. Beta Alpha coordinated and sponsored the event, as well as assisted with fundraising, securing performers and judges, and selling tickets. The culmination of their efforts resulted in a Philanthropies donation of over $1,000.
