PAN PIPES Fall 2018 3 Five Days in arizona 2018 NATIONAL CONVENTION Strolling SAIs Director Bronwyn Clagett leads delegates in a fraternity sing accompanied by Friend of the Arts Michael Braz during a general session of the 2018 SAI National Convention in Scottsdale, AZ . M embers of Sigma Alpha Iota converged on Scottsdale, Arizona at the end of July for the 49th National Convention to share in music, fraternity education, and sisterhood. Five days of events included: ceremonies and musicales; workshops and the ever popular Phlea-Phlam; keynote speakers and the SAI Philanthropies Benefit Concert; a trip to the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM); and the much anticipated national elections and Dinner of Honors. The theme of this year's convention was "SAI - So Near, So Dear." This sentiment was evident in each inspiring presentation, such as the multiple Fr.Ed. "Fun-damentals" presented by NVP Ritual and Fraternity Education Tracey Wygal Withrow, as well as the reports of the National Executive and Philanthropies boards. The love of SAI was showcased during thirty-two engaging workshops, music shared by the Strolling SAIs and numerous mini-musicale performers, and with each new friendship formed amongst the attendees. The keynote speeches by Dr. Kirk Randazzo, on developing leadership skills, and by composer Andrea Clearfield, about her work in Tibet which resulted in her cantata Tse Go La, provided ideas for membership development and insight into the creative process. Following are a few highlights from the convention, an introduction of the fraternity's newly elected officers, and the announcement of the national award winners. Future issues of PAN PIPES will also include additional convention and workshop coverage, so all of our members may share in the moments of inspiration, education, and excitement.
