Fall 2019 35 PAN PIPES 2019 SAI Annual Awards Philanthropies Buffalo Alumnae Eta A , Region VIII Will purchase string instruments for the Buffalo String Works to permit more students to participate in their program, which provides instrumental lessons and instruments to refugee students from countries including Burma, Afganistan, Syria, and Somalia. Tampa Alumnae Lambda D, Region VI The Tampa Alumnae Chapter and the Delta Chi Chapter partnered to present a music education grant to either an elementary school music teacher, a middle school music teacher, or a local community music organization to fund a special/innovative project. The 2019 music education grant recipient is Jonathan Casanas, music specialist at Lanier Elementary School to purchase 18 keyboards. Reno Alumnae Delta B, Region I To purchase music resources for elementary music teachers for the Washoe County Music Resource Library. The chapter has spent over 150 collective hours organizing, cataloguing and creating an electronic database of band, orchestra, choral and general music resources in the library. Baltimore Alumnae Iota A , Region VIII To donate the funds to the John Archer School who plans to contract Kid Pan Alley for a themed residency songwriting program. Kid Pan Alley brings professional musicians into schools to help students compose songs with original music and lyrics. Kappa Upsilon Kansas State University, Theta A , Region II To commission a new work for solo trumpet and piano to be performed on the chapter's annual Women in Music concert in March on International Women's Day. The new work is a collaboration among Australian-American composer Melody Eötvös, consortium leader Marie Mencher, and 15 consortium members across the United States. Seattle Alumnae Nu, Region I To fund bringing in a renowned keynote speaker during the 10th anniversary celebration of the music therapy degree program at Seattle Pacific University. The speaker will open the community outreach event, provide the keynote address and support the training sessions for the music therapy community. Lambda Omicron Florida International University, Lambda A , Region VI To support an Adopt-A-Music Program to benefit low income schools in Miami-Dade County by providing financial assistance and support for the local music programs to purchase musical instruments, method books, and support.
