PAN PIPES Fall 2019 55 OAKE Conference in Hartford, CT. Donna presents regularly on Kodály Pedagogy at conferences for local, regional, and national professional music organizations including the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA), the Rhode Island Music Educators Association (RIMEA), the Kodály Educators of New York (KONY), KESNE, and OAKE. Donna is published in the Kodály Envoy of OAKE, the Choral Journal of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the Bulletin of the International Kodály Society (IKS), and presented at the 21 st and 22 nd International Kodály Symposia, in Kecskemét, Hungary in 2013, and in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2015. From 2004-2013 Professor Menhart served as the director of the Treble Choir for grades 5-8 and the high school Bel Canto Choir at St. Andrew Church in Colchester, CT, and she has successfully sponsored and coached young singers for acceptance and participation in the OAKE National Children's, Youth, Women's, and Concert Choirs. She received Level III Kodály Certification and a double Master of Music in piano pedagogy and music theory from The Hartt School, where she was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society, for which she serves as Secretary/ Treasurer for Hartt's Epsilon Gamma Chapter. Donna received a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Rhode Island and has performed extensively as a collaborative pianist, most notably under the direction of Hartt co-founder Moshe Paranov and in master classes for renowned flutist Julius Baker and composer Gwyneth Walker. Dr. Corrine Byrne Dr. Corrine Byrne was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Sigma Omega Chapter at Susquehanna University in May. Dr. Corrine Byrne is an Assistant Professor of Music at Susquehanna University. Dr. Byrne has blossomed in the New York music scene, singing everything from the music of the Medieval era to new music of today. Dr. Byrne's recent roles include Filia (Jepthe), Anna I (Die Todsünden) Lady Madeline (The Fall of The House of Usher), Doctor (The Scarlet Professor), Cathy (The Last Five Years), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) and Anima (Ordo Virtutum). She holds a BM from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an MM from the Manhattan School of Music, and also received her DMA from Stony Brook University. In addition to teaching at Susquehanna, Byrne is a co- founder of Ensemble Musica Humana and The Byrne:Kozar:Duo, whose recording of 'Bring Something Incomprehensible Into This World' was featured in the New Yorker Magazine's 2017 Notable Recordings. She regularly collaborates with Polyphemus and the Westchester Oratorio Society, along with many other groups. She is also a member of Beyond Artists, a coalition of artists that donates a percentage of their concert fee to organizations they care about. Dr. Byrne has brought her professionalism and poise to Susquehanna, influencing sisters to strive to be the best possible versions of themselves. The sisters of the Sigma Omega chapter are very lucky to have Dr. Corrine Byrne on our campus as an amazing example of what Sigma Alpha Iota stands for. Julie DeBoer Julie DeBoer was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Epsilon Omicron Chapter at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in May. Mezzo soprano Julie DeBoer is a Professor of Voice and Voice Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Originally from Western Springs, Illinois, Ms. DeBoer graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University with a bachelor's degree in voice performance. She holds a master's degree in voice performance from Northwestern University, where she performed the roles of Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Nancy in Albert Herring, and the third spirit in The Magic Flute. Teaching both privately and in a classroom setting has always been her passion; she was an aural skills and music theory teaching assistant at Lawrence University, and she taught a private studio of fifteen undergraduate students at Northwestern University. She has performed everything from early music to new compositions on the operatic, concert, and recital stage. Recent operatic roles include Third Lady in The Magic Flute at Aspen Music Festival and Zita in both Gianni Schicchi and Buoso's Ghost, a sequel to Gianni Schicchi by composer Michael Ching, at Bay View Music Festival.Ms. DeBoer has performed both as an ensemble singer and as a soloist with many acclaimed choirs in Chicago, including Grant Park Chorus, Chicago Symphony Chorus, Music of the Baroque, Bella Voce, and the William Ferris Chorale. In 2015, she appeared as the alto soloist in Music of the Baroque's performance of the Allegri Miserere mei Deus, and in 2014 she was a soloist in Bella Voce's performance of Handel's Messiah with Chicago's premiere baroque period chamber ensemble, the Callipygian Players. Dr. Kerry Glann Dr. Kerry Glann was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Iota Chi Chapter at Ball State University in April. Dr. Glann serves as Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Ball State University. He directs the Concert Choir, Women's Chorus, Opera Chorus, and Chamber Choir at the university. Along with leading ensembles, he teaches teaches conducting and graduate choral literature. He previously taught at Kent State University and in the public schools of Ohio. He holds a B.M. in music education from Bowling Green State University, an MM in conducting from Kent State University, and a DMA in choral conducting from the University of North Texas, where he led the UNT Women's Chorus, taught undergraduate conducting, and served as a conducting associate in its nationally-recognized early music program. He annually organizes the Women of Song concert at Ball State, which celebrates female performers and composers. Beyond Ball State, Dr. Glann serves as artistic director of Muncie's Masterworks Chorale, a 70-voice community chorus that presents a four-concert season each year FRIEND OF THE ARTS a man or woman who is supportive of and actively involved in the arts at a local or regional level Byrne DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS Glann DeBoer
