Five days of events included: ceremonies and musicales; workshops and the ever popular Phlea-Phlam; Keynote Speakers and the SAI Philanthropies Benefit Concert; the performance of the IAMA composition competition pieces; and the much anticipated national elections and Dinner of Honors. The theme of this year's convention was "Music is Our Call." This theme, based on the contest-winning song composed by SAI Amy Inman Barnes, was made evident in each inspiring presentation, as well as the reports of the National Executive and Philanthropies boards. The love of SAI was showcased during the many engaging workshops, music shared by the Strolling SAIs and numerous mini-musicale performers, and with each new friendship formed amongst the attendees. Many SAI sisters heard "the call" and stepped up to aid the Fraternity in its endeavors as new Province and Regional Officers. This 50th Convention was also marked by two historic firsts: the election to the National Executive Board of the first Black sister, NVP Collegiate Chapters Jaielle Manning, and the first Latina sister, NVP Ritual and Fraternity Education Rebecca Sepulveda. The keynote speeches included inspiration on a variety of topics. Convention Honoree Dr. Joyce Johnson spoke about her beliefs on living a successful vocational and personal life. Dr. Melodie Galloway shared her research on the "Music of the Blue Ridge," while National President Leslie Odom Miller talked about leadership styles and skills needed for success in SAI. Dr. Sheree Gibson spoke during Sunday's General Session about the Fraternity's work on improving its Diversity and Inclusion efforts, walking attendees through the process used in forming the committee and chair position. Following are a few highlights from the convention, an introduction of the Fraternity's newly elected officers, and the announcement of the national award winners. Future issues of PAN PIPES will also include additional convention and workshop coverage, so all of our members may share in the moments of inspiration, education, and excitement.
