2012 National Convention"The Healing Power of Music" Convention Ensembles Offer Opportunities for All V ocalists and instrumentalists alike can perform at the Atlanta Triennial Convention — and represent SAI to attendees and guests — through the Wind Ensemble, Strolling SAIs, and new SAI Strings. Registration information for all performance groups is available on the SAI website's convention page. SAI Strings This new Convention ensemble will perform at the opening reception, Thursday night, Aug. 2, conducted by Deb Volker, NVPRitual, and violinist with the US Air Force Band/AF Strings. The ensemble is open to both collegiate and alumnae members. You will need to bring your instrument to the Convention. (Some larger instruments may be provided.) Music will be sent to participants before the convention. Audrey Pilafian (Miami Alumnae), Hajnal Pivnick (Alpha Mu), Susan Bermann (Lambda A PO), and Courtney Boyd (Eta Phi) formed a string quartet and performed the musical prelude to the initiation ceremony at the 2006 Convention in Orlando. Strolling SAIs Active collegiate or alumnae members going to convention as non-delegates are invited to join in. Participants will learn several songs in the SAI Songbook and perform throughout the convention. The conductor for the 2012 Convention is Judy Coder, Topeka Alumnae Chapter member. Jacqui Seaborg conducts the Strolling SAIs at the first General Session of the 2009 Convention in Chicago. Wind Ensemble Once again, Sigma Alpha Iota will have a Convention Wind Ensemble for the Welcome Luncheon on Friday Aug. 3. SAI Friend of the Arts Michael Braz, retired from Georgia Southern University and past IAMA Composer/Judge for Convention, will be wielding the baton for this ensemble. The band is open to both collegiate and alumnae members. You will need to bring your instrument to the Convention, except for string bass, tubas, euphoniums and percussion instruments; those will be provided.
