She toured throughout Europe and the United States with renowned baritone Charles Nelson, a collaboration spanning many years. A charter member of Denton Alumnae Chapter, Jean presented numerous Benefit Musicales, singlehandedly raising thousands of dollars for chapter scholarships awarded annually to members of both Iota Theta at University of North Texas, and Iota Omega at Texas Woman's University. Jean performed as soloist and as official accompanist at several National Conventions, most recently in Dallas in 2000. A consummate performer, in spite of deteriorating health and being continuously on oxygen, Jean Mainous at age 91, played a twenty-minute musicale of Mozart and Poulenc before being presented the Diamond Sword and the National Alumnae Leadership Award pendant. Jean Mainous is an inspiration to all who know her.
